This is Tomorrow 2008 - PROPOSAL

A rethinking of the iconic 1956 exhibition

THIS IS TOMORROW 2 will reconstruct the collaborative group format and pavilion structure of the THIS IS TOMORROW 1956 exhibition. Whereby 12 groups of three / four people: Artist, Architect and Culture + Communications - musician, engineer, theorist, philosopher, scientist, new media, writer... work together in response to the question What are the multidisciplinary issues and subjects of interest for artists and architects today? And thereby propose a project to represent their collaborative artist / architect / urban vision.
The participants would use the defined exhibition space and collaborative process as a platform to communicate and present artist / architect / urbanist / social / cultural ideas. It is concerned with forward thinking linked to questions of urbanism and cultural production. The curatorial brief has purposefully been left as open as possible at this stage to allow for organic development through discussion between the curators and the participants.

We would expect the exhibition to develop a process based, workshop format rather than a finished art / architecture product. We anticipate the presentation of information through conceptual, symbolic, digital and multi-media formats. The catalogue would be a major part of the exhibition with text and design recording the ideas emerging within the collaborative pavilions.

The process of collaborative multidisciplinary action, thinking and discussion with an internationalist perspective is a key element of the proposal. The groups will be drawn from UK and international artists and architects based in the UK or with significant UK links.
